South Canterbury beat Palmerston North 17-7 to win the Returned Services' Association's annual bowls championships in Masterton today Ahead from the first bowl. South Canterbury owed their predominance to their lead. D Menzies, who played only one loose shot during the 10 ‘ends Although Palmerston North tried valiantly to offset their disadvantage, the Southern skip R R Francis, was always able to retrieve the situation. In the semi-finals. Canterbury beat Whangarei 7-4. and Palmerston North defeated Waimarino 9-8 after an extra head The Hanan Trophy for competition between the North and South Islands was won by the North for the third time In 15 years.
