Gas Generation Steady
Generation of gas in the year 1960-61 (at 5696 million cubic feet) showed an increase of 0.6 per cent, over the previous year, according to the Department of Statistics. The number of consumers fell by 5524, or 3 3 per cent., in 1960-61, and the average price of gas to consumers for the latest year was Ils lid per thousand cubic feet, compared with Ils 7d the previous year.
Gas is notably cheaper in the South Island where the average price per thousand cubic feet in 1960-61 was 9s 7d to the consumer as against 13s 3d in the North Island.
