INJURED SEAMAN

Knife Wound In Abdomen (N2. Press Association) TIMARU. March 18. When the S.S. Gothic berthed at Timaru on Saturday night a member of the crew was taken to hospital with a knife wound in the abdomen. He is Henry Barry, aged 34, an assistant steward, of London. Mr Barry was taken to the Timaru Public Hospital by St John Ambulance and his condition last night was repotted to be satisfactory. It is reported that an incident occurred on board when the vessel was sailing from Port Chalmers to Timaru. After being alerted by a radio message from the Gothic, police and ambulance authorities met the vessel when it reached Timaru at midnight After inquiries by Detective P. R. Callanan and Sergeant C. F. Smith another member of the crew was taken into custody and he will be charged in the Magistrate’s Court with assault causing actual bodily harm.
