Tribal Leaders’ Views ( NZ. Press Association) ROTORUA. March 12. Mr P. H. Leonard, of Rotorua. a leader of the Arawa tribe, agree? with the allegations of Mr H T Reedy, an East Coast tribal leader, that Auckland University has mutilated part of the Maori language. At a meeting at Ruatoria yesterday between Maoris and the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Hanan). Mr Reedy said East Coast Maoris felt "very strongly” about the insistence of Dr B B.ggs (Auckland University) on making every lengthened vowel in the language a double vowel.

A Maori language book by Dr. Biggs was produced at the meeting.
