Second Test In Jamaica (N2J>A.-Reutee— Copyright) KINGSTON (J arnaica), Mar. 8. C. Borde and P. R. Umrigar rescued India (280 for 7) with a fifth-wicket stand of M on the first day of the second test against West Indies yesterday. Borde, who hit 93, and Umrignr (50) came together after four wickets had fallen for 89. They were barracked by some of the 14,000 crowd when they began quietly, but they later scored at over a run a minute. Play was held up seven minutes when R. Nadkami was struck in the back by a ball from the fast bowler W. Hall. Nadkami stayed to make 22 not out by the close. Hall, who bowled Borde when he looked set for his century, needs only three more wickets to complete his 100 in test cricket. Borde hit C. Stayers for five fours in two overs when West Indies took the new ball. With S. Durani (17), Borde put on 51 for the sixth wicket. He fell to Hall after batting for three hours six minutes.

Nari Contractor, India’s captain, and V. Manjrekar, who both tailed In the first test, were again out cheaply. Manjrekar, who headed India’s batting averages against England in the recent series, was out for 14, and Contractor for one. The Nawab of Pataudi was unable to play because of a pulled muscle.
