ARTILLERY DIRECTOR
Major Moor Appointed Miajor R. J. Moor has been appointed director of the Royal Regiment of New Zealand Artillery with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He succeeds Lieutenant-colonel J. A. Pounitney, who is now director of training. Colonel Moor was educated at Hutt Valley High School and Palmerston North Boys’
High School before joining the Territorial Force in 1937 as a gunner in Bth Battery at Palmerston North. In 1939 he joined the 2nd N.ZjEF. and was commissioned into the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment, going overseas in 1949 to serve with the New Zealand Artillery in Greece, North Africa and Italy.
He joined the Regular Army in 1947 and served in artillery and staff appointments in Wellington before being posted to serve with 16th Field Regiment in Korea. He returned to Auckland in 1952 and in 1957 was posted to Army Headquarters, Wellington, as a staff officer in the planning directorate. In 1959 Colonel Moor attended a two-year joint services staff college course in Britain. He was awarded the MB.E. in the 1961 Birthday Honours.
