DEVELOPING PORT
£4m Plan For I Taranaki (NJt. Press Association) ■ | NEW PLYMOUTH. Mar. 8, . Government approval will I be sought for a £4,250.000 development plan of Port, Taranaki. The scheme, which is a revision of a 1960 plan, requires an empowering bill before work can begin. The new plan was adopted in principle by a meeting of the Taranaki Harbour Board today. Should the suggested works continue as planned, the sum of £4.319.250 will be required over a nine-year period with the possibility that the construction of an additional berth plus the modification of the Newton King wharf may raise the outlay to about £5.000,000 by 1971-1972. It may also prove necessary to provide one or more tugs. Recommendations placed before the board include a 1200-foot breakwater extension. the dredging of four additional berths, and 'the construction of two berths together with approach reclamations and services.
