ATTACK ON DIEM

“Dictatorship Detested” (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 7. A Vietnamese pilot who last week straffed the presidential palace in Saigon predicted today another attempt to overthrow President Ngo Dinn Diem of South Vietnam, the Associated Press reported from Phnom Penh. The pilot, Sub-Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cu said: "As long as President Diem stays in power, one can predict there will be more attempts to overthrow him.”

The American-trained pilot, one of two who made the spectacular aerial attack, said: “There are many elements in the Vietnamese Air Force who are not able to support President Diem’s dictatorship. The Vietnamese people and elements of its Army detest President Diem’s regime and his family.” After the attack that set fire to a wing of the palace. Sub-Lieutenant Cu flew his plane to Cambodia, made a crash landing, and was given asylum. His companion was shot down in South Vietnam and captured.
