NURSING OF BABIES

“Many Weaned Too Soon” Many women wean their babies too soon for no very good reason, the chairman of the research committee of the Canterbury faculty of the College of General Practitioners said yesterday. “Because we felt there had been a certain laxity in the matter, we decided to find out exactly when babies w r ere weaned, and what the reasons were for weaning them at that particular stage,” he said. "This investigation has been under way for about a year. When we have a general picture of what is going on, we hope to start an investigation into the effects the time of weening has on the child.” The committee was conducting its survey through general practitioners and Plunket nurses, he said. It was hoped that the publicity given would encourage mothers to continue breastfeeding as long as passible.
