CHANGES IN TARIFFS

Warning By Official ( N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA, Match 7. With tiie Introduction of the new tariff schedule in July, both the department and the general public were in for a “fairly tough time,” said Mr J. H. Randal, of the Customs Department, at the annual conference of the Society of Customs Agents in Tauranga today. Mr Randal said he had been working on the new tariff for the last 15 months and hej needed every minute of that! time to understand fully every item one was likely to come up against. Customs staff had been undergoing intensive courses on the schedule to enable them to help importers and Customs agents. Mr Randal suggested that agents at smaller ports should make themselves familiar with the definite pattern of imports In their areas, and concentrate on these in toe new schedule.
