RANGITANE DAMAGE

Youth Sentenced To Detention

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar; A

An examination of the vessel Rangitane has shown that the damage caused when a youth released diesel fuel into a boiler could be as high as £3OO, said Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today. James Edward Hornsby, aged 19, a workman, appeared for sentence after earlier pleading guilty to releasing the fuel. He was sentenced to detention in the Waikeria Youth Centre. Mr Coates said the term of the probation after this detention was that Hornsby should pay not more than £2OO towards the cost of the damage.
