Memorial To Art Teacher

A mural painting at the Linwood High School will be presented to the school on Saturday by Mr D C. Manson. president of the school’s ex-pupils association, on behalf of the association. The mural, which was painted by Mr W A. Sutton. senior lecturer at the School of Fine Arts. University of Canterbury, features New Zealand fauna and flora. It will be a memorial to Mr P L. Weenink. art teacher at the school, who died in July. 1959. Mr Sutton planned the mural some years ago. but the Education Department did not proceed with the commission. He painted it during the summer holidays, and the cost of completing the painting as a memorial is being borne by the expupils' association. It is on a wall of an upstairs landing and covers an area of about 130 sq ft.
