Wenona Girl At Peak

(NZ. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 6. The Australian champion stake-winning mare, Wenona Girl, won back her place as favourite for the Newmarket Handicap next Saturday with a slashing five-furlong gallop at Flemington today. With three of the four big doubles bookmakers in Melbourne, Wenona Girl now shades the Futurity Stakes winner, Aquanita, for favouritism. After track work today, G. Lane said he would ride the three-year-old New Statesman, which means J. Purtell will ride My Peak. Wenona Girl looked in perfect condition today. She ran five furlongs in Imin 2%see, 30ft out on the course proper, galloping the last three in 36%sec.
