PERUVIANS KILLED

Peasants And Police Clash

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LIMA (Peru). March 6

Seven Peruvian Indians were killed and 20 wounded

in a clash between 4000 peasants and 600 policemen who dislodged them from three farms in Cerro de Pasco province, the Peruvian Government announced. Five policemen were injured in the clash. United Press International reported. The peasants squatted on the farms to claim lands they said were theirs under ancient Inca inheritance rights.

When police attempted to move them on Saturday, the fighting broke out. The police used machine-guns, rifles and tear gas against the Indians, some of whom were reported to have used slingshots. Cerro de Pasco, the provincial capital, is about 120 miles north-east of Lima.
