RACING Vitamise Impressive In Training Sprint

Vitamise could scarcely produce a gallop on a hard trade in the Kinloch Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday, but he sprinted brilliantly on an easier galloping surface in training at Riccarton yesterday.

Vitamise is in the Thompson Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, and will be taken north tomorrow. Ridden by his race rider, A. J. Stokes, he ran away from his younger sister and stablemate, Ribonflavin (A. Palmer), over seven furlongs, and cut out the distance brilliantly in Imin 29sec.

It was a strong pace from the start They dashed over the opening three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. Sailorman (B. W. McDonald) did well to finish within a length of Payout (A. H. Eastwood) in another good trial on the outside of the trial grass. Sailorman started near the mile, and Payout did not join him until he went two furlongs. Payout, with a good pull in the weights, had a definite advantage on the post, but honours of the gallop were with Sailorman.

The stablemates dashed in from the half-mile in 49 2-ssec.

A. H. Eastwood will ride Payout in the Railway Handicap at Trentham on Saturday. , M. J. Skelton, who won on the Treasure Hunt gelding at Motukarara, will ride at the Otago Hunt meeting this week. W. D. Skelton has been engaged for Sailorman, second top weight and one of the stronger form prospects in the Silverstream Handicap at Trentham. G. H. Murfitt, Junr., will travel north with Payout and Sailorman tomorrow. Keen To Quicken Master Dalmain, one of Sailorman’s rivals on Saturday, was keen to quicken in the early stages of a mile gallop.

Ridden by N. Eastwood, the Washdyke three-year-old pulled hard just ahead of Canon (K. R. Jones) going to the half-mile. Canon felt the strain in the straight, and dropped some lengths behind Master Dalmain.

He ran his mile in Imin 50 4-ssec, the last half in 55 l-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 42 2-ssec. Master Dalmain was taken north last evening by his Washdyke trainer, W. P. Hogan.

Good Sprint

Seaend (Miss F. Kerr) led her stablemate Surrend (E. G. Low) over half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Seaend started with a lead of two lengths and widened it to three lengths in the last furlong.

Seaend will be the only South Island representative in the Plunket Nursery at Trentham now Marlborough is not making the trip. Topa (E. G. Low), a Thompson Handicap lightweight, sprinted half a mile with Knight (W. Beck) in 51sec.

Topa has not yet raced this season. He has been useful on soft tracks.

Corvale, ridden by his Wingatui trainer, A. N. Didham, went pleasingly under a good weight with Seadance (R. B. Taggart). They sprinted half a mile in 51sec.

Share (L. Williams) and Scarlet Pride (M. J. Wildermoth) followed in 51 2-ssec.

Studio (A. J. Stokes) worked easily over half a mile in 54 2-ssec. He ran a nail into his foot last month, and the injury has caused him some trouble lately. Gay Filou (N. Eastwood) was not allowed to show anything like his best speed for seven furlongs. He took Imin 37 l-ssec for the distance and 53 3-ssec for the last half mile. Gay Filou was taken north last evening and will run in the Thompson Handicap on Saturday.
