McGregor APPEALS

Conviction For Murder ( N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 6. An appeal has been lodged in the Court of Appeal against the conviction and sentencing of John Hector McGregor, aged 28, a glazier, to life imprisonment for murder. The grounds, so far unamplified, of the appeal, filed by McGregor’s counsel, Dr. A. M. Finlay, are that the judge misdirected the jury, in particular on the point of provocation in manslaughter. McGregor was found guilty of the murder of his neighbour, Wallace Bernard Whiteford, at Papatoetoe, on Janu. ary 9, by a jury in the Supreme Court at Auckland and sentenced to life imprisonment by Mr Justice Gresson.
