HOSPITAL BUILDING

New Block For Sunnyside Approval for the calling of tenders for a new reception and early treatment unit at Sunnyside Hospital was announced yesterday by the Minister of Health (Mr McKay). The new block will stand between the sports ground and Sylvan street. It will be part two-storeyed, containing patient accommodation in small units grouped into four wards with a total of 140 beds. The small units will allow flexibility in meeting tbc needs of the patients. Men and women in the acute section will be separated, but those in the open section will share a common diningroom. The present admission block, which the new building will replace, is 40 years old. The medical superintendent of the hospital (Dr J. D. Hunter) said yesterday that the old building would probably In future be used for acute and open cases, but this was a matter for the Minister.
