Anthem Composed To Mark Occasion An anthem composed to mark the appointment of the vicar of Opawa and St. Mar-' tins (the Rev R. O. Williams) as an honorary canon of the Christchurch Cathedral was sung in St. Anne's Anglican Church. St Martins, on Sunday evening. The anthem, the words of which were taken from the Sermon on the Mount, was composed by Mr K. Newton, senior lecturer in music at the Christchurch Technical College. The suggestion for the anthem came from Mrs Newton, who is ehoirmistress at St. Anne’sIn three parts, for soprano, alto, and baritone, the anthem took about four minutes to sing. It will be used again on appropriate occasions. Mr Newton, who composed the anthem during a weekend. intends to compose more anthems.
