Athletics P. G. SNELL’S PLANS

No Run In N.Z. Mile Title ( N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 5. The world record holder, P. G. Snell will not run in the mile when the New Zealand athletics championships are held at Eden Park, Auckland, on Friday and Saturday. Snell also holds the world 880 yards and 800 metres records. The world two and threemile record holder, M. G. Halberg, will defend his national three-mile title. The national marathon champion, Barry Magee, will run in the six miles. Auckland will put a 56strong men’s and women’s team into the championships. Entries from other centres are disappointingly small. The mile has attracted a good field of runners, some of whom could make the trip to Perth for the Empire Games in October. Prominent among them are the young milers, D. Karl (Wellington) and J. Davies (Waikato).
