£300 FOR SAILORS’ CLUB

Proceeds From Exhibition About £3OO was received from the Maritime Exhibition at the Durham Street Art Gallery, and more than 4000 persons visited the exhibition during the six days it was open, said the chairman of the exhibition committee (Mr S. Mair) yesterday. The money will be used in -he jubilee appeal being conducted by the Canterbury branch of the Merchant Navy Centre to build a new sailors’ club at Lyttelton. Mr Mair said he would like -o thank the firms and individuals who lent rare and items for the exhibition. Some of the items were very valuable and it was pleasing to be able to report that not one item was damaged.
