REBUFF TO S.E.A.T.O.
Manoeuvres In Thailand (N .Z P-A.-Reuter—Copyright) BANGKOK, February 23. The Thai Government has rejected a plan to hold a S.E.A.T.O. air exercise in Thailand next month, because it felt such manoeuvres were “useless,” the Bangkok “Post” reported. The report, quoting authitative sources, said the Prime Minister, Marshal Sarit Thanarat, felt that S.E.A.T.O. had done nothing but hold exercises while proCommunist forces gobbled up territory in Laos. Marshal Sarit believed it was useless for S.EA.T.O. as it stood at present to hold manoeuvres, the report said, adding that Thailand was waiting for S.EA.T.O. to be “strengthened.” A S.E.A.T.O. spokesman told Reuter that an air exercise had been scheduled to be held in Thailand in March, but declined any comment on the Bangkok “Post” report.
