Mr W. L. Middlemass, New Zealand Trade Commissioner for the Federation of Malaya, will be the guest at an informal reception given by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association next Wednesday morning. During his stay in Christchurch, Mr Middlemass will visit a number of factories. Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon has been re-elected chairman, and Mr R. A. Witbrock deputy-chairman of the Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority. The appointments were made at a special meeting of the authority and are for three years.
Mr H. G. Gilpin, the City Council’s director of reserves, has been made an associate of honour of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture for distinguished service to horticulture. The number of associates of honour is limited to 40.
The Rev. C. Knight was recently bidden farewell by the patients and staff of Burwood Hospital. Mr Knight was chaplain to the hospital for 10 years. A presentation was made to him by the matron (Miss S. Rolls).
