HOROTIU DISPUTE

Union Calls Meeting (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 21. The 6281-strong Auckland Freezing Workers’ Union has called a general stop-work meeting in Auckland tomorrow which will bring to a halt the operation of seven freezing works between the Bay or Islands and the Waikato.

' The meeting will discuss the four-day-old dispute at Horotiu, which involves about 1000 men.

The Horotiu dispute Is over a change in the method of beef slaughtering, the men claiming the extra man needed in a gang would reduce the original gang’s earnings. The unionists stand to lose a total of £25,000 in wages through tomorrow’s stoppage.

Exports to Europe.— About 30 per cent, of British exports go to Western Europe.
