CLAIMS BY OPENERS

|d A Doz. Rise May Be Asked f N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Feb. 20. Oyster openers tonight decided to call a meeting on Thursday night to discuss whether their claims for one farthing a dozen rise in their contract rates should be renewed.

The secretary of the Oyster Openers’ Union. Mr W. Te Koiti, of Invercargill, said that oyster openers had made this claim before the season opened and were turned down. However, he said, it now appeared that the oystermen who manned the boats were sticking to their demand for 2d more a sack which would give then an increase of about 12s a day. A farthing a dozen on the oyster openers' rates would give them a similar rise. The meeting on Thursday night will discuss whether our claims should be renewed to bring our rates in line with those of the oystermen,” said Mr Te Koiti.
