NATIONAL COUNCIL
Recognition In Community The National Council of Women was becoming recognised more and more and was taking an honoured place in the community, said the president of the Christchurch branch of the council (Mrs W. Grant) last evening. “Public recognition brings a great deal of responsibility and we must do our best to accept it,” she said. The Dominion conference of the council would be held in Christchurch in October, when a number of remits would be discussed. “It is my dearest wish that these remits will be thoroughly investigated and that we will do our best to get as much information as possible about them,” she said. “We must be well informed about everything before discussing it and always try to give a considered opinion, never an emotional one.”
Discussing "Women's Viewpoint,” the National council's monthly publication, Mrs Grant asked delegates to give it their fullest support and to encourage their friends to read it.
The magazine, in its new form, would give a wide coverage of women's activities in New Zealand and was a very worth-while publication. If enough subscribers were found the Christchurch branch would not need to hold sales tables and other fund-raising projects, she said.
Two new delegates were welcomed to the council. It was announced that the North Canterbury Girl Guide Association's application for affiliation had been accepted.
