Space Shots In Public

Western reporters might be allowed to witness the Soviet Union s next space shot. Marvin Kalb, the Moscow correspondent of the Columbia Broadcasting System, said on Monday. Kalb said on a television news programme that he had asked permission to visit the Soviet launching area in central Asia to compare the Soviet programme with that of the United States “This reporter was told—of course, unofficially - that foreign correspondents would probably be permitted to witness the next Russian effort.” Kalb said ‘They were just hints. But they have come often enough to suggest a basic —albeit reluctant—change in the traditional Soviet policy of absolute secrecy on all launching.”
