This week's announcement that a Brazilian club soccer team may tour New Zealand in the coming season will be welcome to followers of the code. Brazilian soccer is the most colourful in the world and. if the terms wanted by the club, the Olaria AC., are not too severe. New Zealander® may see in action some of the world’s leading players.

The New Zealand Football Association has always been progressive in its outlook to international soccer tours Last season the English F A team made a very successful visit to the Dominion, and in the previous year a New Zealand team toured Tahiti Previous visitors to the Dominion ’have included Costa Rica in 1959. Australia in 1958. and Hong Kong and the Fussball Klub. Austria, team in 1957. Unfortunately, for tours of New Zealand by really good sides, the Dominion is handicapped because Australia is still under a ban imposed by the International Football Federation This prevents a top-ria's side making a tour of both countries which could then share the cost New Zealand alone is not in a position to guarantee large sums to overseas sides The Nl-v Zealand Football Association is still hoping to attract another team from Hong Kong to rhe Dominion this season To this end. New Zealand is working hard to have the ban on Australia removed The ban was imposed several years ago because Australia was unwilling to pay transfer fees to Dutch and Austrian clubs whose players bad migrated to Australia It is therefore possible Shat a Hong Kong side may be seen in action in New Zealand this season If this is not possible, the New Zealand Football Association will try to arrange visits by teams from Fiji and New Caledonia. The New Caledonian side played several matches in Auckland at the

beginning of last season, and proved a great attraction ¥ ¥ ¥

Water Polo

The return water polo match for the Miller Cup will probably be played in Dunedin on February 24 This match, the second of. the annual home-and-away series with Otego for the trophy, was to have been played in December but had to be cancelled In the first of this season’s matches, played in Christchurch. Canterbury won 12-1. and so is well on the way to retaining the trophy.

A member of the MC C team which toured New Zealand last season, the spin bowler. D Allen, headed the bowling aggregates and averages for England in the recently-concluded test series with Pakistan. Recently Seymour ran 440 yards in 49 3sec. which is Ise" faster »han his winning time at Christchurch last year and at the West Coast. Nor’fi Is’and championshin' on Satu-day he won the junior 220 yards in 22sec. almost a second faster than that of the next best ranked junior. Last season Seymour was second to J Trathen in the national 220 yards in 22-2 sec.
