FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A shallow depression centred northeast of the North Island is moving south-eastwards and an anti-cyclone centred to the south of New Zealand extends on to the South Island. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Moderate south-east winds tending easterly; cloudy at first with a few light showers near the coast, but becoming partly cloudy later. Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Coast.— Fresh to strong south-east winds; cloudy and cool with light showers. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Strong south-easterlies in exposed northern areas of Nelson, otherwise winds light to moderate and variable; a few isolated light showers about the ranges, otherwise partly cloudy; moderate temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine with cool night but mild day temperatures.
