B. de Thier Wins Buxton Cup
Buxton Cup days In the Canterbury yachting calendar are notoriously rough; on Saturday, when the trophy was sailed on the Estuary the 30 yachts participating had only the lightest of airs to blow them along.
Only in the final minutes of the race did the wind change from east to south and freshen markedly, and for’a rd hands who had been lying easily in the bottoms of the boats had to climb out on the trapeze wires.
B. de Thier, the young Mount Pleasant skipper who went straight from P. Class to Olympic Finns at the end of last season, won the trophy. By doing so, he proved that hi's race-winning light weather performances .among a fleet of Canterbury championship Finns three weeks ago were no flukes.
