Boat’s Crew Shelters In Wheelhouse From Shark

TIMARU. January 30.
The crew of the Timaru fishing boat Marina spent about an hour and a half in the wheelhouse o the vessel on Saturday after they had caught a 12ft “porpoise” shark in a trawl of about 18 cases of groper Th' skipper (Mr L. Bisset) said the Marina was fishing
about 40 miles south-east of Timaru in 55 fathoms of about the same position as the Seafarer, which also netted a “porpoise” shark. The shark, which Mr Bisse» said was of 7ft girth, la’ded on the feck and th-ashed about t" such an extent that he and another member of the crew (Mr K. F Heeney) had to shelter in the wheelhouse. “The shark was most vicious." said Mr Bisset. “It stepped fish in naif and bit the planks. We remained in the wheel h ouse for about two hours until the shark bad quietened down. Then we tied a sling round its tail, put a tackle on, winched it up, slung it ipto the water and cut the sling.”
