ROWING CLUB HALLS
Compromise On Licence Issue
A solution to the dispute about publie hall licence rights of rowing clubs at Kerrs Reach is expected to be proposed to the Christchurch City Council at its meeting tomorrow evening The Avon Rowing Club Included a hall in its building on an undensta-ding that it would have sole public hall rights at Kerrs Reach and thus be able to recoup some of its outlay from revenue It has been letting its hall for some time The Canterbury Rowing Club has now also sought a public hell licence to assist finances for its building. The by-law® and reserves committees of Hie City Council jointly considered the problem last evening ft is understood that the council; will be recommended to grant the Canterbury club aj hall licence from a fixed date in the future, thus giving the Avon elub an advantage fori a short period As some compensation to the Avon club for any fall in revenue wtiich may follow, it is
understood that the council will be recommended to allow certain financial relief The council does not expect any objections to the rowing club halls being let for public functions A car park to hold 450 vehicles has recently been constructed at Kerrs Reach, well clear of neighbouring residential areas.
