He tied the n.erk se< by G Davis last May. which is pending acceptance as a world record. Urises’ record - breaking performance was made indoors at the District of Columbia games. Hie record he bettered was that of 15ft 9Jin set by D. Bragg, who bolds the world outdoor record of 15ft 9jin —set during the 1960 Olympic trials M. Schwarz, another marine, was second, and J. Belrtza, of Maryland, was third in the pole vault. Each went to 15ft, but Schwarz had fewer misses The 6ft lin Uelses declined to try for 16ft. saying he did not want to aggravate a groin injury he suffered earlier this year. Two weeks ago at a Baltimore meeting he had failed to clear 14ft.
