Fijians Bat Enterprisingly Against Manawatu

PALMERSTON N„ Jan. 29. The Fijian team played entertaining cricket when it met Manawatu in a two-day game which began today. At the end of the day Fiji bad a lead of 268 runs. After Fiji had scored 225 runs in the first innings. Manawatu was dismissed for 129 and ait stumps the Fijians had scored 172 runs for five wickets in their second innings. The Fijians* first innings was fine entertainment. A. Dews, U. Sorovakatini and I. Bula were particularly aggressive batsmen. 100 coming up in 55 minutes and 150 in 87 minutes. A. Waqatabu was the most successful of the Fijian bowlers, taking four wickets tor 32 runs. With a healthy lead on the first Irminas, the Fijians were in an even brighter mood when they started their second innings. Playing “suicide” cricket which appealed to the spectators, E. Loganimoce slashed at every ball. He punished N. S. Hartord’s bowling in particular, lifting several well beyond the boundary.
