Athletics CANTERBURY BLAZERS

Award For Relays

In future the four members of Canterbury athletic relay teams winning a relay title at the national championships will be eligible for the award of provincial 1 blazers. This was agreed to by a special meeting of club delegates, which preceded a half-yearly meeting. The notice of motion submitted by the University Club was passed unanimously after a brief discussion in which Mr G. E. Valier said that as a similar privilege had been extended to the eight members of successful harrier teams it seemed only reasonable that relay teams should also be entitled to gain blazers.

Two other notices of motion were adopted which will give the centre executive greater scope in naming events for Canterbury championships and Canterbury records. These motions were intended to allow the executive greater latitude in under-age events without continually having to amend the centre constitution. The two motions were:— “The centre shall annually conduct Canterbury championships in all events listed for the national championships and such other events as the executive may from time to time decide.” “The executive shall be empowered to recognise Canterbury record performances for all Canterbury championship events and for such other events as the executive may from time to time decide.” Records Clubs and sub-centres will be notified of the requirements that have to be fulfilled before meetings conducted by them are acceptable for record purposes. Their attention will be drawn to the relevant clauses of the association’s and centre’s constitutions. This was agreed to after one of the records committee, Mr K. S. Jameson, had sought clarification of the position. To meet record requirements clubs must take previous application to the centre for approval of the meeting. Olvmpic Day will be held on February 23. said Mr R. A. Linton, who urged that athletes should give their full support to the day. More would be heard in September about an appeal for funds for the Empire Games team.
