FUND-RAISING CAMPAIGN
Joint Appeal To Be Made
A mystery envelope campaign to raise funds for the new Karitane Hospital at Cashmere and for permanent headquarters for the Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Association will be launched at the end of this month. A joint committee of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society and the Christchurch Old Boys' Football Club is planning the campaign.
An introductory function to mark the beginning of the campaign will be held on the evening of January 28. The purpose and nature of the campaign will be briefly explained. Next month calls will be made on business houses by volunteer canvassers.
An appeal to the citizens of Christchurch to support the scheme has been made by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning). “I am pleased to support and commend this project, because I know full well the wonderful work which the Plunket Society does, not only in our city, but throughout New Zealand for our infant population,” Mr Manning says.
“At present there is being built at Cashmere next to the old Karitane Hospital a new building which will accommodate an increased number of babies. Finance is urgently needed to complete this necessary work. "The High School old boys require permanent headquarters in the city. I need hardly point out that old boys are to be found in every walk of life in Christchurch and that they have indeed made their presence felt both in industry and sport. Theirs is a great tradition and I am perfectly sure that this undertaking will commend itself to you. “I have no hesitation in recommending this joint project to the citizens of Christchurch,” said Mr Manning.
