UNIVERSITY HOSTELS

Support Given By Women (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. Women’s halls of residence as an integral part of university life were an aim deserving the fullest support, the conference of the New Zealand Federation of University Women agreed today. The conference decided that the branches in each university district should cooperate in launching a campaign to provide residential accommodation for the women students of the universities.

The recommendations of the Parry committee regarding acceptable standards of accommodation, size, staffing and finance were also fully supported. One of its recommendations was that the Government should provide 50 per cent, of the cost, the rest being made available on long-term loan.
