DIAMOND WEDDING

Mr And Mrs J. Colville

Mr and Mrs J. Colville, of Blenheim, will celebrate their diamond wedding in Christchurch today with an "at home” for friends and relatives at the home of their only daughter, Mrs T. Kelly, of Onslow street. Married 60 years ago at St. Mary’s Church, Addington, by the Rev. W. S. Bean Mr and Mrs Colville have shared an interest in gardening all their lives. Mr Colville has been a professional gardener for most of his working life, and their home at Laking’s road, Blenheim, is considered a show piece. The couple spend much of their time in Christchurch They lived in Waimate for 20 years before moving to Blenheim. At one time Mr Colville worked in the old flour mill at Riccarton. The mill machinery was installed by his father.

Both in their eighties and enjoying excellent health, Mr and Mrs Colville spent Christmas in Auckland, attending a barbecue on New Year’s Eve. Mrs Colville crochets rugs for lepers, and at one time baked Christmas cakes for the Marlborough Old Folks’ and Pensioners Association.

A diamond-shaped wedding cake has been made for today’s celebrations by Mrs Kelly, and iced by Mr and Mrs Colville’s eldest grandson. Mr M. Kelly. The couple have six grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.
