Obituary Dr. W. D. S. Johnston
(N.Z Press Association) NELSON, January 22. The death occurred at the week-end of Dr. W. D. S. Johnston who until his retirement a year or so ago was in practice in Nelson for more than 50 years. He was 79. Dr. Johnston was educated at Nelson College and took his medical degrees at Edinburgh University. He served in the Medical Corps during both world wars, held the gold star badge for distinguished service to the New Zealand Returned Services Association, was a County Commissioner of the Boy Scouts for nearly 40 years, and a member of the Nelson College Council of Governors for 25 years. MR E. A. FIELD (N.Z. Press Association) PALM. NTH., January 22. Mr Edward Armine Field. Mayor of Foxton and a former president of the New Zealand Beekeepers’ Association, died at Palmerston North on Saturday. He was 50. Mr Field had been Mayor since 1955. He i» survived by his wife and a young family. MR W. B. SCOTT Mr William Brewer Scott who died in Ashburton last week, was the son of one f the earliest farmers in South Canterbury. His father, Mr lames K. Scott, settled in the femuka district in the 1870 s Mr William Scott served n the First World War in the Canterbury Rifle Brigade, and acquired a farm when the “Coldstream” station, near Ashburton, was subdivided after the war for soldier settlement. He was a prominent breeder of Border Leicester stud sheep and took an active part in farming affairs of the Ashburton district. In his youth Mr Scott was a noted athlete, and later he became a keen angler. He was a foundation member of the Temuka Pipe Band. Mr Scott is survived by his widow, daughter, and two sons.
