Budget Up In Malaya
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 20. Malaya’s Prime Minister (Tunku Abdul Rahman) told the House of Representatives yesterday his Government had budgeted for an increase of about 500.000 Malayan dollars (about £ 112,500) for tihe coming year, to cope with Malaya’s “increased activities” in international relations.
He said Malaya was assuming a more important role in international affairs and there was a need to intensify the efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs. Examples of this were: The active part Malaya was playing on behalf of the United Nations in the Congo. Its initiative In promoting the new Association of South-east Asia for cultural and economic cooperation between Malaya, Thailand and the Philippines. The Malaysia plan for a federation of Malaya, Singapore and the Borneo territories of North Borneo, Sarawak and Brunei. The House later gave its approval to the External Affairs Budget estimates.
