Two Piacings Altered <N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 22. Silver Pelt, which finished third in the Gloaming Stakes at Trentham today was relegated to fourth and Explain was promoted to third by the judicial committee. K. S. Cullen, the rider of Silver Pelt, was charged with causing interference to Explain and Apa. After hearing evidence from the riders concerned and viewing a film of the race the committee decided that Silver Pelt had caused the interference.
The charge against Cullen of careless riding was dismissed. The committee considered that he took immediate remedial action to straighten his mount. After the running of the Nursery Handicap Mr S. C. Elliott, the owner of Tonnerre, which ran fourth, lodged a protest against the third horse. Sir Barton, on the grounds of interference. The committee heard evidence from the riders concerned and viewed a film of the race. They considered that the interference was definite and upheld the protest. They placed Tonnerre third and Sir Barton fourth A. T. Jones, the rider of Sir Barton, was found guilty of careless riding and wai suspended till 5 p.m. on February 3.
Vitapointe, ridden by L. N McCutcheon, fell at the home turn in the Summer Handicap. She fractured her near fore elbow and was destroyed. McCutcheon, who escaped injury and was able to ride later in the day, told the committee that he clipped the heels of another runner and that no other rider was responsible for the fall. Vitapointe was a six-year-old mare by King’s Pai from Serento, and was owned by the Hawera trainer, H. V. .Bourne.
