INFANTRY EXERCISE
Trek Across Ranges
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Jan. 22.
Infantrymen from three territorial battalions are trekking across bush-covered ranges from Coroglen, on the Tapu-Whitianga road, to the Kauaeranga valley at the back of Thames.
The troops, members of the Ist Auckland. Ist Northland and Ist Hauraki Battalions, will traverse country as rough as any in New Zealand. The occasion is the annual field exercise of the Ist Infantry Brigade. The territorials will be harassed on the way by seasoned regular troops, parachute soldiers of the Ist New Zealand Special Air Service Squadron and gunners of the 16th Field Regiment. The men are sleeping in the open as they would under active service conditions.
Brigadier A. B. Bullen, commander of the Ist Infantry Brigade, is conducting the exercise, which will end on Wednesday.
