OX DERAILS RAIL-CAR
Appeal Made To Farmers
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 22.
The Sunday rail-car form Wellington was pertly derailed about 11 p.m. near Nuhaka. 42 miles south of Gisborne, after hitting an ox A relief rail-car brought the oassengens to Gisborne, a little more than three hours and a half late.
After striking the ox, the partly-derailed raii-car travelled across a short bridge half a mile south of the Nuhaka station. Inside guide rails of the type placed on all bridges, however, prevented the rail-car from leaving the track or turning over.
A passenger on the railcar, Mr F. M. Hick ling. president of the Wadroe executive of Federated Farmers, today appealed to farmers to assist in keeping the railway line through the Wairoa county clear of stock “Last night's accident could have devetooed into a disaster,” said Mr Hickling. ’You can't fake it.
