DOUBTFUL SOUND CANOE TRIP

The party of eight—six men and two women—was from the Auckland Canoe Club They were led by the club commodore, Mr P Souter
Although the water was calm, it rained on eight of the 10 days This, and the attacks of hordes of sandflies marred the trip. The canoes and much of the gear were flown into the sound while the party travelled by launch up Lake Te Anau and walked the track. They then explored various arm; of the sound and penetrated some rivers a few miles, camping on the shore each night. Ten days later they walked back over the track to meet the airlifted canoes again at the head of Lake Te Anau. j The entire trip took three weeks The club already has; tentative plans for a return visit next year, perhaps to! Dusky Sound.
