NEW BUSINESS PREMISES
Effect Of Factories Act
"An amendment to the Factories Act, 1946, requires the occupier of a factory to submit with his application a plan of the proposed factory drawn to scale,” said Mr C. P. Collins, district superintendent of the Labour Department in Christchurch, commenting on the building of factories and shops. "This should largely overcome a difficulty that has often arisen in the past when occupiers, unaware of the requirements of the law, have had premises constructed and then found they bad defects which were costly to remedy. “In the department’s administration of the Factories Act, 1946, and the Shops and Offices Act, 1955, its inspectors are always available to help occupiers, architects, and builders in tije planning and lay out of facilities end amenities for factories and shops.
“We are certain that intending occupiers of factories and shops can be saved considerable outlay and inconvenience by having the plans examined by an inspector before construction begins, he said. “This is a free service and is in the best interests of those considering building business premises ”
