Mr Bolte Here For Talks On E.E.C.

WELLINGTON. January 18 The Premier of Victoria (Mr Bolte) arrived in Wellington last night to “brush up on New Zealand and to discuss common problems" Most of the common problems were those that could arise from Britain’s proposed entry into the Common Marker he said Both areas would be left to their own resources more in that event, and there could well be room for cooperation in selling the two countries’ products “However, in about 10 years it will all be apparent why ft’s a ‘must’ for Britain to join.” said Mr Bolte Mr Bolte, who was met at th- airport by the Australian High Commissioner (Sir John Collins) will be in New Zealand for nine days. His talks here, he said, would be informal.
Answering questions. Mr Bolte said he could see no reason why Mr Menzies could not govern with a majority of one. “New Zealand did it for three years," he said, and he added he believed there would not be a Federal election in the near future but that the Government’s term
of office would run for the full time. Australia's interest tn New Guinea at the moment was fa* greater than that of the Dutch, he added “Our position is quite clear -we stand tor negotiation with the aim. ultimatfly. of self-determina-tion ’’
Mr Bolte said that, economically. Australia was looking up Savings were increasing greatly, and Victoria hoped to absorb another 15.000 unemployed soon on seasonal work. On the question of Tattersalls lottery, he said he had not so far thought of bringing the matter up with the New Zealand Government
He said he would be going to the yearling sales at Trentham but laughed at the suggestion he might buy a horse “I can’t afford one" Mr Bolte races "a few" horses in Victoria
“For years now we've had the mortification of seeing your horses take all the big races, and now I’m here I’d like to see some of the youngsters." he said. The main points of his discussions here would be abort meat and dairy products, he said. “Our problems are your problems."
When he meets the Prime Minister he will be meeting Mr Holyoake for the first time
“I have not yet had the privilege, but my path and that of Sir Sidney Holland crossed many times," said Mr Bolte.
