Work Of Westland Board

Visitors to the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers have found the beauties of the region much more easily accessible this year because of the work of the new Westland National Park Board.

The r*nger (Mr P. F. King) and his staff have been clearing tracks, renovating hut*, building bridges, and making picnic areas. About 60 miles of track is involved.

Work now completed or under way includes the clearing of the Westland part of the track over the Copeland Pass to the Hermitage, and the renovation of the two huts along it, the improvement of the tracks around the glaciers, the provision of parking areas beside the main road on lakes Mapourika and Wahaipo, and beside Lake Matheson, and the bridging or rebridging of several small creeks along
