TIMARU. January 17 Eleven informations under the Secret Commissions Act. 1910 against John Hartstein, aged 5?,. wool classer, of Timaru. were heard in the Magistrate’s Court in Timaru today He was charged that being an agent of Lichtenstein and Paykel, Ltd., wool brokers and exporters. Auckland, he made contracts with Lawrence John Campbell, relatin tc the purchase ot sheep skins of a total value of £8?6« 19s 2d on behalf of his principal and failed to disclose to his principal at the time of making the contract, or as soon as possible thereafter, the existence of pecuniary interests which he had in the making of such contracts The 11 charges were dated from August 17. 1960, to August 1. 1961 According to SeniorDetective Sergeant J A Marshall, Lichtenstein and Paykel. Ltd., had pz.id out an excess of £715 10s 9d as a result of the 11 transactions involved. After a tour-hour hearing Hartstein. who pleaded guilty to -ach of the 11 charges, was committed by Mr N M Izard. SM. to the February session of the Supreme Court for sentence He was allowed renewal of bail on his own recognisance of £2O( and a surety of £2OO Eleven alternative charges of false pretences against Hartstein were dismissed for want of prosecution Senior-Detective Sergeant Marshal) prosecuted, and Mr B J. Petrie represented the defendant.
