BATTALION IN MALAYA
Training For Reserve Role (N 2 Preus Association) AUCKLAND. January 17. The final party of the 2nd Battalion of the N*w Zealand Regiment returned to Auckland from Malaya today The commander Colonel L F Brooker. remained in Malava with a small number of men to complete the withdraws’ of the battalion He said the Ist Battalion which wen’ to the new Army camp a’ Malacca, on the Malayan coast, had settled down without any troubles It was at present undergoing jungle training in preparation for a battalion exercise in March or April He said there was very little terrorist trouble at present The terrorists had W’hdrswn over the border Federation tronns were natrolling the border and New Zealand patrols, when comp’etely trained, would make oe'tsional visits
The troops were popular w"h officials snd the people of Malays, Mid Colonel Brooker
The troope were being trained for a strategic reserve role, now that the terrorist trouble had died down
