OUTCOME AT PEAK
Awapuni Work
“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NTH., Jan. 1«. Outcome's impressive halfmile trial to beat Far Step was the highlight today at Awapuni, when horses with engagements at Trentham and Aahhurat were worked. Far Step is usually hard to match in training and Outcome's effort suggests a great chance for him in toe Telegraph Handicap. Shalott and Apa, candidates for the Anniversary Handicap, ran the best six furlongs of the morning, and Stetson was another to go well over that distance. Silver Theme heartened her admirers with a rousing halfmile and Bagush pleased for the Pencarrow Hack Handicap when he went five furlongs. Others to acquit themselves well included Faultless and Bandon, Silver Pelt, Starborough, Challis, and Copper Joy. The latter beat Orokawa by 10 lengths in one of the surprises of the morning. Mild Surprise On the No. 1 grass, Outcome (Sellars), usually a lazy worker, caused a mild surprise when he seemed to be holding Far Step (Hulme) at the end of half a mile in 49 3-ssec, toe last three in 36 3-osec.

Silver Theme (Stoodley), after jumping off two lengths behind Silver Sprite (Taylor), ran home an easy winner over half a mile in 40 3-3 sec, the last three in 37aec. Silver Theme, which looks a picture, galloped impressively and must be extremely hard to beat in toe Fitzherbert Handicap.
Copper Joy (Xitken) caused a surprise when toe beat Orokawa (Taylor) by at least 10 lengths over half a mile in 40 4-3 sec, toe last three furlongs in 37sec. Copper Joy was clear all the dicap. Orokawa, a candidate for toe Wellington Stakes, was disappointing, for he looks in *JBagutoi (Carter) was going nicely alongside Flockhart(Tay. lor) at toe end of five furlongs in imin 3 4-ssec. toe last three in 37 3-ssec. This was a fine effort by Baguah. which looks ready for a bold effort in the Camp Hack Handicap. Silver Pelt (Stoodley) and El Greco (Watson) left six furlongs behind in Imin 18sec, toe last

On New Year form Apa appeals as a bright prospect Yenrab (Slavin) and Damselle (Aitken) took 37sec for three furlongs from almost a standing start. Damselle was in front at the finish. She is in the Sfitzherbert Handicap on Saturday, but will need to Improve on her Levin form to have a chance. Ma Cherie (Aitken) worked easily from toe mile, speeding up over the last three in 38 3-5 see. Her recent racing has done her no harm, but some improvement will need to be forthcoming if she is to win the Wellington Cup.
