MINOR FIRES
A garage and car in it, owned by Mr C. D. Ashton, of 79 Winchester street, Merivale, were badly damaged by fire at 2.15 a.m. yesterday. The fire is thought to have started from a shortcircuit in the car's wiring. A unit from the Central fire station and one from the St. Albans station put out the fire.
At 10.52 a.m. yesterday units from the Central and Sockburn stations attended a grass fire in a section owned by the Hornby Lodge in Ker! place, Hornby. There was no damage. Units from the Central and Woolston stations attended an oven fire at 10.55 a.m. in a house occupied by Mr R. Rouse at 189 Linwood avenue. There was no damage. Minor damage to a combined shed and garage owned by Mr A. G. Ablett, at 28 Merrington crescent, was caused by a fire at 2.58 p.m, yesterday. Units from the Central and Woolston stations attended. A small rubbish fire at 9 p.m. in a vacant section owned by Mr P. Hill at 70 Brooke street was attended by a unit from the New Brighton station. There was no damage.
